Sony Xperia Tablets S Not Splash-Proof, Pulled From Shelves
Other

Sony Corp suspended sales of its magazine shaped Xperia Tablet S, barely one month after releasing the device. The Japanese electronics giant said that as a result of a manufacturing flaw at the Chinese plant fabricating the device, there are gaps between the screen and the case that make some of the slates susceptible to water damage. The Android-running Xperia Tablet S was touted by Sony as a water-resistant device. Customers who have purchased the device will be able to have their tablet fixed or replaced free of charge if there is an issue.

What Else You Need To Know

  • Sony began selling its latest Android tablet on September 7th in the United States followed by launches in Japan, Europe and elsewhere, and has so far shipped 100,000 units. For comparison purposes, top tablet seller Apple sold 3 million units of the third generation iPad in the first three days.
  • The Xperia Tablet S features a powerful quad-core Tegra 3 processor, a 9.4-inch 1,280 x 800 IPS display, and unique hardware features like an infrared emitter for controlling other devices, Sony's own ClearAudio+ technology, and a full-sized SD card slot.
  • The 16 GB Wi-Fi only version of the Xperia Tablet S is priced at $399, which is $100 cheaper than the entry-level iPad 3.
